Stroke Program

Lourdes is leading the charge in stroke education, prevention and advanced care for the people of our community through our stroke program. Our Stroke Center of Excellence was the first facility of its kind in Acadiana, and has also earned the Gold Seal of Approval from the Joint Commission for Primary Stroke Centers.

We are consistently ranked among the best in the nation for immediate response in stroke care. Through our multifaceted Fast Alert program, we have coordinated recovery efforts from all touch points - from ambulances in the field to our dedicated nursing staff, neurologists, neurosurgeons and the only full-time interventional neuroradiologists in Lafayette. Before a stroke patient enters our facility, our acute care team is prepped and ready to deliver treatment at a moment's notice.

In addition to our unsurpassed level of stroke care, our program is also focused on prevention and education. Time is critical during a stroke, so we urge everyone to learn the signs of a stroke and act F.A.S.T. (Face, Arm, Speech, Time).

Face
Does the face look uneven? Ask the person to smile.

Arm
Does one arm drift down? Ask the person to raise both arms.

Speech
Does their speech sound strange? Ask the person to repeat a simple phrase.

Time
If you observe any of these signs, call 911 and get to the E.R.

By recognizing the signs of a stroke and dialing 911 immediately, you could help save a life.
